Question: My ’98 Chevy 6.5 L Turbo keeps throwing the “Service Engine Soon” light.?
I have a ’98 Chev 3500 with a 1994 6.5 Turbo. I found this out after i had the truck about six months. The scanner says it is a glow plug related code. After new plugs, controller, and temp sending unit I am still getting the “Service…” light. I have noticed that it is an intermittent prob. After the codes have been cleared the “Wait to Start” stays on and everything functions correctly. But after a day or two, when you turn the key forward the wait light goes out quicker than normal and then i have to crank and crank or else plug it in for a while. Any ideas? The Chevy dealer mechanics tell me they are also looking to find an answer. But no luck so far.

Sounds like the glow plug relay. I am not 100% sure, but I think your 98 relay is different than the 94 model glow plugs and different voltage will tell the computer your engine needs service. See if you can put later model glow plugs in your early engine or swap relays. If that did not work out, I would just disconnect the light and always wait a few seconds to start it and always keep an eye on your guages and fluids since you won’t have the idiot light anymore.
