Question: For Canadian accountants – 08 first time self employed tax failing?
In 08, my employment condition was very complicated; I was employed from January to early October. In between, I received 2 months of U.I for family medical leave. Afterward, I was hired as a rehab coach, not as a staff, but as a sub-contractor (thus self employed???)

Because I was a sub-contractor from October to December, I did not receive any T4 from my boss, and I was told by my boss to “create my own company” in order to file a fax return??? I earned $ 1000 as self employed person last year.

Would you please explain to me how am I going to “create my own company”? What professional advices you would be willing to offer me, so that I may have maximum tax return?? If I walk in to your office as my employment condition stated above, how much would you charge me? Please help me, as currently, I am financially tight.

Thanks in advance.
I am currently working for an auto related accident rehabilitation.

You need to report the self employment income on form T2125, statement of business or professional activities. There is no need to “create a company”. You will just report the earnings on the T2125, and include this in your tax return.

If you incurred any expenses in order to earn the income, these can be deducted on the T2125. This would include supplies, use of motor vehicle, and many others. Have a look at the form, it is fairly self explanatory.

The CRA web page below provides much information on how to report self employed income and expenses.
